TEACHING
"Ian came highly recommended by our son's previous piano teacher (having recently retired). Over the past year, we have seen Ian's warm and enthusiastic demeanour nourish our teenage son's love of piano and music in general. Ian's thoughtful approach to teaching inspires our son to push his own boundaries in a comfortable and safe environment as Ian is nothing but positive in his support. Backed by his credentials, Ian is able to cater his lessons to both the practical and theoretical aspects of music. We highly recommend Ian Green for students of any caliber."

"Ian is a kind and thoughtful person and teacher. His teaching style is positive, encouraging and supportive. Ian has been teaching my daughter for the last two years and I deeply appreciate his gentle energy, sensitivity and responsiveness to her unique learning style and musical interests. Ian clearly has great skill and talent in fostering musical development on all levels. I highly recommend him to any prospective student."

"I highly recommend Ian Green to anyone seeking excellent piano and music instruction. He possesses all the knowledge, credentials and skills to guide learners of any age or level to reach their full potential. Ian responds to every question or concern with complete and timely responses. He willingly facilitated a recording session that we requested and has helped our son develop his theoretical knowledge and composition skills. Having witnessed the piano instruction that Ian Green has provided our son for three years, I can confidently recommend his musical leadership."

"Ian has a relaxed manner which my daughters appreciate. He challenges them musically and with performance opportunities. He is sensitive to their likes and interests and keeps them excited by allowing them to learn their favourites. He is skilled as a pianist and teacher so that he can adapt and teach any style. He is conscientious and consistent with lessons and times. We highly recommend Ian if you are looking for someone to challenge and have fun with at the same time!"

"I have studied piano and theory for most of my youth through the RCM, but I was ready to move in a different direction. I heard Ian play at a few events and approached him about teaching adults. I was interested in "getting off the page" and doing more with my playing. While respecting my past experience as a pianist, Ian expertly met the challenge by providing instruction in improvisation, jazz, blues and rag-time piano. His has gently pushed me into growing as a pianist by providing opportunities to perform in informal adult recitals and duets for our community. Through his kind, encouraging teaching style, I have been challenged to expand the genres I play and keep up with my skill and technique. Ian listens to the needs of the learner and makes learning piano the joy that it is meant to be."

"We have been studying piano with Ian for the past year. We have really appreciated learning piano with Ian. He is organized and helpful. His practice notes help us so that we know what to focus on during the week."
-Emma Scholtens, Jonathan Scholtens (siblings; Peter Scholtens, parent)
“After hearing her friend’s playing, my daughter was intrigued to learn piano with Ian when she was six. Over a year later, we are now and then amazed by some nice tunes coming out of her moving fingers and by her curiosity to ‘decode’ other tiny tunes outside the textbooks. Through his excellent teaching imbued with wonder, patience, encouragement and respect, Ian has successfully fostered and sustained the little girl’s interest in enjoying music and, sometimes, in creating her own wee pieces as she often does with Lego."
-Rachel Zhou, parent
"Having just moved to Hamilton from Toronto, Ian has been very accommodating and has developed a positive relationship with both of our teenage pianists. He puts them at ease and understands well how to foster and support their musical interests. His guidance about Royal Conservatory theory and practical expectations is also a major asset."
-Eric Robertson, parent
"Our daughters have been taking piano lessons with Music by Ian Green for more than five years. Ian's attentive and receptive teaching has enabled a positive environment for exploring music in a variety of genres. He understands their individual learning styles and personal interests in order to keep them engaged in music that is of interest to them. Our daughters have both developed a love and appreciation of music that I believe will stay with them for years to come. Thank you Ian!"
-Christina Pridmore, parent
"Our son started piano lessons with Ian in 2017 based on a positive recommendation from a friend. He had completed his Grade 6 RCM exam and wanted to learn some jazz and contemporary pieces as well as work on completing the RCM theory requirements. Ian has provided a perfect balance of exposing our son to new genres of music, while at the same time, continuing to progress with classical pieces, theory and technique."
-Heather Barnes, parent
"Ian has been teaching piano to our 3 children with varying personalities and musical interests for a number of years. He has a way of connecting with each student and tailoring the lessons to the interests of the child whether it’d be RCM exam prep, jazz music, or pop/video game music. We have also enjoyed the many opportunities he provides through recitals (both formal and informal) to share music with other students/families and continue to be inspired.”
